Stock Photography

We are currently in the process of selecting models for various stock photography projects.  If you are responding to the ad or have been approached by MJ directly, you're in the right place!  This info is for you.

What is stock?
Whether you know it or not, you've most likely seen lots of stock photography.  It's all around you in magazine ads, brochures, on web pages and even on billboards.  When designers and advertisers need a special picture for one of their projects, they typically turn to stock.  It's far less expensive than commissioning the photo and with literally millions of images available, they're bound to find exactly what they need.

There are several online agencies that sell these images for professional photographers.  We currently work with the main four (BigStockPhoto, Dreamstime, iStock, and  ShutterStock.  Each has very specific criteria they use to determine image suitability, so even though a photo is approved by one, it may not be by another.  Diversity is the name of the game.

What sort of images are these?

The most popular photos are "lifestyle" shots.  Basically, that's people doing everyday things in appropriate surroundings.  It might be cooking, gardening, exercising, relaxing, studying, etc.; really anything you might normally do.

Other popular images include "isolated" shots.  These are taken in a studio using a solid colored backdrop (usually white).  Doing this enables designers to replace the background with one suited to their project.

Why me?
Well, if you've seen the ad, you already know exactly what we're looking for in our current project and you fit that look.  If, on the very rare occasion, you were approached by MJ directly, you have a specific look that we like and need.  Either way, we'd like to hear from you.  Please follow the instructions in the "what's next" section.

Do I need experience?
No.  Although experienced models are preferred, it is not necessary.  If you are chosen for a project, we will work with you to get the very best shots possible.  We shoot in a relaxed, professional and fun setting.  Every model, regardless of experience, is treated with the utmost respect.  Also, your comfort and safety are very important to us.  As such, we invite all selected models to bring an escort to meetings and shoots.

What's next?
The next step is yours.  If you feel you have the right look and a sincere interest in stock modeling, please contact us with intent e-mail.  List "Stock Project" somewhere in the subject line and include a short bio (body specs, age and modeling experience, if applicable) and either a photo or link to your online portfolio (not applicable if we've met you in person, but mention that in the message).  Models meeting the project specifics will be asked to schedule an appointment to discuss specifics, compensation and time line.

We look forward to hearing from you!
